William King's working dates were from 1767 to 1772 and the signature engraving states "William King Temple barr Dublin Fecit." The compass box measures 5 1/4 inches and the instrument measures 17 3/4" in overall length. When the compass was received, the sight vanes, alidade, and socket were badly damaged and have been replicated to original specifications. If it wasn't for the spectacular engraving on the original compass body as well as the original needle, I would not have decided to restore it to such a high level.
