E. Kutz (Senior) Compass

New York City, Circa 1825

Exceptional engraving on one of his early compasses with a 5 1/4 inch compass box and 13 1/4 inches in overall length. Totally original in all details with an active level vial. If you study closely the engraving on this instrument and the newly-listed Patten, New York instrument, you will see a great deal of similarity in the engraving style, suggesting the possibility that these two New York makers shared the same engraver.
